It was his focus on Luke, however, that caused him to miss the doubt growing within his original apprentice, Darth Vader. So confident was he of his victory that he engineered his own destruction at Vader's hand. By turning young Skywalker to the dark side of the force Emperor Palpatine wanted the young Jedi to take his fathers place at the Emperors side. But Luke never did join the dark side and redeem Darth Vader back to the light side and Vader killed Palpatine. | |
